Review: Rolling Rice

I hope no one is reading this at night lol.
But anyway, hello! I am in KL at the moment and even though I am mad exhausted, gonna go and type this out quickly before I KO.
So continuing on with the food theme because I'm all out to get fat and round like ball (no I am just kidding really), the bff introduced this place to me and Wanjun again last week.

Rolling Rice
6 Eu Tong Sen Street
#B1-49,The Central

Yup, Korean food! :D
I was expecting like a really cosy and typical Korean restaurant but this place is actually located at The Central's basement area so it pretty much had a open air concept as opposed to an actual store.
But it looked promising because I saw kimbap on the menu lol!
Favourite.Korean.food.ever!!

The place was pretty empty because the dinner crowd had not come in yet and we quickly ordered our food.
Was given the buzzer thingy you see above which is typical of Korean stores where you need to do self-collection and that was how Rolling Rice was too.
You order at the counter, pay, take the buzzer and your receipt, wait for the buzzer to buzz, go collect your food and voila, EAT!
The man who was tending at the cashier was a really nice Korean ahjussi, very polite and caring.
So thumbs up for good service!

Salmon & cheese and bacon & kimchi kimbap $8.80 (ordered as a set)

Now this I had really high hopes for but alas it fell short of my expectations.
If you read my Korea blogs or know me personally, you'd know that I really really really really love my kimbap.
But the kimbap served here wasn't as yummy as I'd expected, could barely taste the bacon and kimchi while the salmon had bones in them.
Yes, I know salmon has bones in them but I really wasn't expecting to bite into a bone.
Pain one you know :/

Stone pot chicken bibimbap $9.80

The bibimbap also fell short because I didn't find the ingredients as nice as the normal ones I eat in local foodcourts.
Plus we added too little sauce so it was very dry. I had like 2 scoops and gave up eating it, leaving it to the other 2 to finish it up (oops!)
Sigh.

Rolling chicken $8.80

After 2 very disappointing dishes, I didn't have much hope for this one too lol.
Sorry, just.... negativity ah.
But I was wrong! The chicken was damn nice, like KFC's popcorn chicken.
And fried tteokbokki! Who would have thought of that!
I really enjoyed this dish and if given the chance, I'll buy this again and not share.

Final dish that we ordered was cheese tteokbokki!

Cheese tteokbokki $8.80

This was really yummy too! But word of caution, do try and eat it while it is warm because the cheese will still be all gooey and sticky.
When it has turned cold already it's really not that nice (think dry and tough cheese haha).
I found the meal to be alright and the pricing a little expensive in my opinion because most of the dishes are just normal Korean street food.
But nevertheless, I did enjoy the good company and the food faired not too bad in my opinion because of the impeccable service we received from the nice ahjussi.

Afterwards we headed to Shaw Tower at Beach Rd to have ice cream haha!
Like a stupid because I was so near home already at The Central but I went further up just to have ice cream at Tom's Palette.
Then on the way we were laughing about the salted egg joke from The Lion Men and because our favourite flavour from Tom's Palette is salted egg yolk we had even more laughs thanks to it.
Ended the night with a full tummy and went home to KO.
It's a really bad habit that I keep going out so often after work and not even planning for my new room.
I heard my dad has already moved into the new place while I still have yet to even order a bed :/
Anyway, last day in KL tomorrow before going back to SG then 1 more day left till my HK trip!
I can't wait to write my entries already for my HK trip :P
Oh, and I wanna get a new photography set-up in my new room.
We'll see how it goes but for now, annyeong~

Review: The Sushi Bar

Hello! I've been eating alot of 'hao liao' (good food in chinese) these days thanks to the CNY period so here to share the fats and calories love for yummilious food.
So made a random stop to The Sushi Bar last week for dinner with Hidaya.

The Sushi Bar
14 Scotts Road
#03-89
Far East Plaza

There was no queue when we reached there at around 6.50pm so thank you dinner gods because I was damn hungry by then.

Seated at a small table for two in a corner and I decided to name it as our 'cui' date because we were both looking very cui that day i.e. I had no makeup on and in specs, she didn't even bother to dress up nicely for town hahah!

In our epic 'cui-ness' haha!

Service was very prompt given that no service charge was charged to patrons (Hidaya spilled soya sauce all over the table and the staff cleaned it up when she was serving us our food).
We ordered 2 cups of hot green tea ($1.50 each) which we can refill the hot water for free from the dispenser on our own.
And on to the food!

Scallop Mentaiyaki $13.90

Had no idea what to expect from this but just ordered it because it was a popular item on the menu ('人气' item).
Pretty yummy thinly sliced scallops with a flamed surface (?) wtf ok I cannot be a food blogger -.-"

Chawanmushi $2.80

Ohhhh the chawanmushi was so delish!
Soft and smooth texture with the ebi roe on top.
Must order! (Y)

Salmon Don $15.90

Now this was what Hidaya ordered as her main.
Because I was too busy gobbling up so many sashimi pieces at Sushi Express just a couple of days back, I skipped this and went ahead to order another main.
I totally regret it because the salmon was so generous! :'(

Will you look at how thickly sliced the salmon was?! Very worth the money because the salmon was really all thickly sliced and I kept koping from Hidaya's plate because I was so disappointed with my main.

Chicken Katsu Curry with Rice $13.90

One word: Disappointing.
Really, I was so bummed out by the curry and the chicken katsu. It just wasn't nice T.T
Sigh, lesson learnt already haha next time just order the salmon don.
I didn't finish this in the end because I kept staring at Hidaya's salmon and cursing myself only.
Now by then we were already almost done with all the food and 1 more item hadn't appeared yet.
It's their very popular dish, salmon aburi roll!
Yes, they forgot our order :(
So we had to wait again but it was worth the wait (although still abit miffed about missing out on our order).

Salmon Aburi Roll $14.50

Wrapped in a salmon piece with a thick slice of sashimi rolled within it.

Bloody delicious, must order!

Hidaya said this food item was very well loved on Instagram haha so we had to order it.
And I'm glad we did because it's really nice!
They were very generous with their ingredients and I was like gobbling everything up hehe.
Both of us agreed this was better than the Shiok Maki (which didn't quite live up to the hype to be honest).

So our total bill came up to $66.80 for 2 persons and by the time we left the restaurant it was already full and the queue was humongously long O.o
Luckily we came earlier haha! We went to watch The Lion Men after that and called it a night after that.
Go give The Sushi Bar a try! I'll probably bring the bf over to try the salmon aburi roll one day xD
Enjoy and till the next entry :P

YSL Spring 2014 Nail Polish No. 49 Rouge Pablo (Swatches/Review)

So I was at TANGS on CNY Eve with Jacelyn because I had to get a NARS Satin Lip Pencil for my cousin in Indonesia and she wanted to get some stuff there too (Curse you TANGS membership card! LOL).
And we dropped by the YSL counter because I was tempted to get the new Gloss Volupte 01 but it was out of stock  as well as GLoss Volupte 49 :(
But I remembered the nail polish from the Spring collection was mad pretty so I asked the BA for it and it was in stock! *\o/*

She applied one coat for me on my nails to try and I immediately said "Please give me a new one!"
The polish was so opaque after one coater and so CNY appropriate hahaha!
Went home and immediately applied it to 'huat' for the new year :)

Pictured here is one coat of the polish without top coat

Application was very smooth, the brush of the polish was some what similar to Dior's (wide and sturdy brush ftw) which is my favourite type of nail polish brush.
I decided against putting a second coat on it and just went to dig out a gold glitter in clear base polish to add some gold colour for even better luck while I'm playing 'ban luck' over the first couple of days of CNY hehe.
Applied them on the tips of my nails and finished off with my Seche Vite top coat for a glossy finish.

Don't you just think it's a very gorgeous colour? :)
It's already a week since I did my nails with this colour and it hasn't faced any major chipping, just the usual wear and tear around the sides of my nails.
Add points for long lasting nail polish! Good job YSL!
I also picked up the YSL limited edition eye palette for Spring 2014 because I couldn't resist - too pretty already! Will do a review once I manage to find an occasion to play with it.
YSL Beaute counters are located at TANGS Orchard and their flagship boutique is located at ION Orchard.
They are really fast becoming one of my favourite high end beauty brands (first love still Chanel but can fight la lol).
Went for the TANGS 12% rebate sale a few days back and came home with 4 new lip products from YSL.
Hope to play with them sooooooooooon!
Ok talk again soon, bye! :)

Happy Lunar New Year!

(cr to owner)

Hello! Happy New Year everybody :) I'm back from China already so hopefully I will resume regular updates yeah?
So I've been up to tons of activities since my return....
By doing something the entire Singapore judges people who do it hahaha!
Yup, queued for bak kwa at Lim Chee Guan.

Don't judge okay, my mother wants the bak kwa so I didn't have a choice. I'm very filial one! :D
I met up with Yvonne my ex-colleague too and was very excited because she bought a tin of cookies from Jenny Bakery for me!

Luckily we had a long weekend for CNY celebrations and I took half a day off to go shopping with Jacelyn on CNY Eve :P

With my Double Ls! HAHA ok la my Craftholic bears from BFF and Wanjun

Steamboat on CNY Eve

This year's CNY was a very quiet one, I only went to both grandparents' homes for visitation before going back to sleep the night away hahaha!
With my awesome cousins lol

Love of my life whom I have a love-hate relationship with :P

I hope CNY has been good for all of you, huat big big and collect alot of angbao money k!
Still have 7 more days to go.
Will be heading to KL and HK next week for work and then for a personal holiday.
Cannot wait because I am extremely burnt out plus I have to move into the new house too.
Excited for that as well hahaha!
Alright, talk again annyeong~
